In the first section regions of strategic importance and great economic value are mapped, in addition to all the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, which are the first level administrative divisions under the state. The two geographical rather than administrative regions are the Shanghai Nanjing-Hangzhou Region and Chengdu Chongqing Region. The topographic maps produce a clear picture of China's landform. The scale varies from 1:1.3 million to 1:25 million. There is an English Legend and index.
